REVOLUTION | Caliste Devermeil

“Revolution” is my personal project about the French Revolution. I wanted to revisit this historical period by adding a touch of magic. In a Paris on the brink of collapse, we follow 3 students from the prestigious Desmynes University, where the most promising magicians are trained. They soon come face to face with the injustice suffered by the people, and have to make choices about the future they wish to shape.

Orphaned, Caliste never knew his parents, and from a very young age he survived in the slums of Paris by doing menial jobs for bigwigs and pickpocketing. Later, he found a job as a waiter in a poorly-kept tavern. Although he was a great help to the tavern owner, his impulsive nature got him into a lot of fights with customers who were a little too pretentious or drunk. One day, during an argument, he was noticed by a professor from Desmynes University, who witnessed the quarrel and was impressed by Caliste's aura. He invited him to join the university to develop his talent and put it to good use for a greater cause. Caliste gladly accepted, because although he had never been to school and didn't really understand what he was getting himself into, having a home and food was a luxury he couldn't refuse.
